Foster Leads Women’s Track & Field at Panther Invitational

PLYMOUTH, N.H. – Junior Jamelah Foster (Fall River, Mass.) broke the school record in the weight throw to lead the Bridgewater State University women's indoor track & field team at the Panther Invitational hosted by Plymouth State University on Saturday at the Bank of New Hampshire Field House.

The Bears, who won four events, finished second in the team standings with 109 points. Division II Southern New Hampshire University won the meet title with 117.5 points.

Foster placed first in the weight throw with a toss of 50 feet, 7.25 inches (15.42m) as she eclipsed the previous BSU mark of 50 feet, 4.75 inches (15.36m) set by Sheila O'Sullivan in 2017.

Senior Jenise Madden (Milford, Mass.) captured top honors in the 3,000-meter run with a personal-best time of 10:26.01.

Freshman Julie Glavin (Weymouth, Mass.) was the first runner to cross the finish line in the 800-meter run as she posted a personal-best time of 2:28.03.

Freshman Abbi Peterson (Watertown, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' event winners as she placed first in the high jump. Peterson, classmate Lindsey Golden (Mansfield, Mass.) and senior Olivia Mabbett of Division II Franklin Pierce University a;; posted a mark of five feet, 0.25 inches (1.53m). Peterson won the tie-breaker based on fewest attempts while Golden finished third.

Senior Tess Miller (Uxbridge, Mass.) added a second place finish in the 400-meter dash (1:03.67).

The Bears' 4x400-meter relay squad, featuring Golden, Miller, senior Jessica Haywood (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and Lily Marra (Lakeville, Mass.), placed second in the event with a time of 4:23.48.

Foster, Madden and Glavin all hit qualifying marks or times for the Division III New England Championships taking place later this month.

Next Saturday, the Bears will compete at the MASCAC Championships held at Smith College.
