Women's Track & Field Places 4th at Tufts Jumbo Invitational

MEDFORD, Mass. –  The Bridgewater State University women's indoor track & field team placed fourth at the Tufts Jumbo Invitational held on Saturday at the Gantcher Field House.

The Bears scored 91 team points to finish behind meet champion Tufts University (243.5 pts.), Springfield College (151.5 pts.) and Coast Guard Academy (139 pts.).

The Bears captured three individual event titles. Senior Jenise Madden (Milford, Mass.) and sophomore Kaylee Dunn (North Attleboro, Mass.) swept the long-distance events. Madden was the first to cross the finish line in the 3,000-meter run (10:28.26), while Dunn grabbed top honors in the 5,000-meter run (18:52.92).

Freshman Alison McDonough (Halifax, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' event winner as she placed first in the 60-meter hurdles with a finals time of 9.46 seconds. McDonough also placed third in the long jump posting a season-best mark of 15 feet, 11.75 inches (4.87m).

The BSU 4x400-meter relay team featuring seniors Tess Miller (Uxbridge, Mass.) and Jessica Haywood (East Longmeadow, Mass.), and freshmen Julie Glavin (Weymouth, Mass.) and Lily Marra (Lakeville, Mass.) posted a third-place finish with a time of 4:24.89.

Juniors Jamelah Foster (Fall River, Mass.) and Juliana Martin (North Attleboro, Mass.) placed second and third, respectively, in the weight throw. Foster tossed the weight 46 feet, 3.75 inches (14.10m), while Martin followed closely with a mark of 45 feet, 10 inches (13.97m).

Madden, McDonough, Foster and Martin each recorded qualifying times or marks for the Division III New England Championships.

The indoor season continues for the BSU track & field teams next weekend as the Bears compete at the Massasoit Classic hosted by Springfield College.
