Women's Track & Field Competes at MIT Last Chance Qualifier

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Sophomore Ellie Bucknell (New Bedford, Mass.) placed first in the javelin to lead the Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track & field team on Thursday evening at the MIT Last Chance Qualifier.

Bucknell posted a mark of 137 feet, five inches (41.89m) in the javelin to win the event.

The Bears' 4x400-meter relay squad featuring senior Amanda Lane (Abington, Mass.) and Traci Perry (Middleboro, Mass.), sophomore Molly McNamara (Hull, Mass.) and freshman Tess Miller (Uxbridge, Mass.) finished third at the meet with a time of 4:02.71.

Perry placed sixth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.21 seconds, while Miller finished seventh in the 400-meter dash with a season-best time of 57.95 seconds. Lane also competed in the 400 as she posted a time of 59.74 seconds to place 11th.

Senior Samantha Richner (Hanson, Mass.) checked in with a fourth place finish in the high jump (5'3"/1.60m), while classmate Sheila O'Sullivan (Westwood, Mass.) placed eighth in the hammer throw (136'2"/41.50m).

As of late Thursday night, Bucknell is ranked 13th in all of Division III in the javelin while Richner is tied for 17th place in the high jump. The top 22 ranked student-athletes in each individual event are eligible to enter the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships which will be held on May 25-27 at the University of Mount Union. Official selections will be revealed Sunday morning on NCAA.com.
