Bennett Sets Shot Put Mark at Tufts Invitational

MEDFORD, Mass. – Senior Sydney Bennett (North Attleboro, Mass.) set the school record in the shot put to lead the Bridgewater State University women's indoor track & field team at the non-scoring Tufts Invitational on Saturday.

Bennett captured the meet title with a mark of 41 feet, 11.25 inches (12.78m) as she eclipsed her own previous BSU indoor standard of 39 feet, seven inches set in 2014. She is currently 12th overall in all of Division III in the shot put.

Freshman Tess Miller (Uxbridge, Mass.) won the individual title in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.52. Miller currently ranks 18th in all of Division III in the event.

Sophomore Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) captured the meet title in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.32 seconds. Andrews, who posted a preliminary time of 9.28 seconds, also placed second in the long jump with a leap of 17 feet, 5.5 inches (5.32m). Andrews currently ranks 24th in all of Division III in the long jump.

Sophomore Molly McNamara (Hull, Mass.) and senior Sheila O'Sullivan (Westwood, Mass.) rounded out the Bears' event winners. McNamara placed first in the triple jump (33'4"/10.16m), while O'Sullivan garnered top honors in the weight throw (46'7.25"/14.20m).

Sophomore Madeline McNamara (Hull, Mass.) added a second place showing in the triple jump (32'11.75"/10.05m), while senior Hannah Maymon (Narragansett, ) finished second in the weight throw (45'1.5"/13.75m).

Next Saturday, the BSU track & field teams will compete at the Wheaton Invitational.
