Poto Places 11th in 10,000-Meter Run at NCAA Championships

WAVERLY, Iowa -- Bridgewater State University senior Danielle Poto (North Andover, Mass.) placed 11th in the 10,000-meter run during the opening day of the 2016 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Wartburg College on Thursday afternoon.

Poto posted a time of 37:44.06 as she finished second among the four New England runners that competed in the event.

Conditions for the race were not the best as it was very humid and temperatures were in the mid 80s. Five of the runners did not finish the race.

Poto was making her first appearance at an NCAA Championship meet.

Teammates Jayci Andrews (Plymouth, Mass.) and Samantha Richner (Hanson, Mass.) will compete on Friday. Andrews in the preliminaries of the 400-meter dash and Richner in the high jump.

Josh Goehring (Haverhill, Mass.) and Conor Murtagh (Walpole, Mass.) will also compete on Friday for the Bears' men's track & field squad. Goehring in the preliminaries of the 800-meter run and Murtagh in the preliminaries of the 110-meter hurdles.
