Richner Leads Women's Track & Field at DIII New Englands

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- Samantha Richner (Hanson, Mass.) tied a 33-year old school record in the high jump and earned All-New England honors to lead the Bridgewater State University women's outdoor track & field team during day two of the Division III New England Championships held at Springfield College.

Richner placed third in the high jump with a leap of five feet, six inches (1.68 meters) as she equaled the Bears' outmark set by BSU Hall of Famer Judy Smith in 1980 and again in 1981. Richner currently ranks 11th in all of Division III in the high jump.

The foursome of Karen Anselmi (Franklin, Mass.), Traci Perry (Middleboro, Mass.), Amanda Lane (Abington, Mass.) and Becca Geldmacher (Rochester, Mass.) garnered All-New England accolades with a fifth place time of 4:01.13 in the 4x400-meter relay.

Veronica Wiggins (Pawtucket, R.I.) recorded a mark of 38 feet, 1.5 inches (11.62 meters) to place eighth in the shot put and round out the Bears' All-New England performers.

Next weekend, qualifying members of the men's outdoor track and field team will compete at the NEICAAA Championships hosted by Westfield State University.

Notes: On Friday, Danielle Poto (North Andover, Mass.) posted a time of 39:50.19 in the 10,000-meter run to finish seventh and garner All-New England status.
