Women's Track & Field Places 5th at Tufts Snowflake Classic

MEDFORD, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's track & field team finished fifth in the team standings at the Snowflake Classic hosted by Tufts University on Saturday.

Samantha Richner (Hanson, Mass.) placed first in the high jump and qualified for both the Division III New England Championships and ECAC Division III Championships with a leap of five feet, three inches (1.60 meters). Richner is currently ranked 12th in all of Division III in the high jump.

Melissa Chiasson (Maynard, Mass.) finished second in the hammer throw (130'6"/39.79m) and fifth in the discus (97'5"/29.70m).

Tshani Williams-Core (Dorchester, Mass.) captured second place in the triple jump with a mark of 33 feet, six inches (10.21 meters).

The Bears 4x100-meter relay team of Laura McHugh (Mansfield, Mass.), Traci Perry (Middleboro, Mass.), Caitlin DiLorenzo (Seekonk, Mass.) and Sydney Bennett (North Attleboro, Mass.) finished fourth in the event and qualified for ECACs with a time of 50.96 seconds.

Bennett added a seventh-place showing in the shot put (35'0.5"/10.68m), while Perry placed eighth in the 400-meter dash (1:02.25).

Veronica Wiggins (Pawtucket, R.I.) finished sixth in both the hammer throw (119'2"/36.33m) and shot put (35'2.5"/10.73m).

Becca Geldmacher (Rochester, Mass.) added a sixth-place performance in the 400 with a time of 1:01.58, while Katie Boutin (Taunton, Mass.) placed eighth in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:18.38.

Bridgewater registered a team score of 48 points. Host Tufts won the meet with 116 points followed by Bates College (98.70 pts.) in second place and Worcester State University (84.70 pts.) in third.

Next weekend, the Bears will compete at the UMass Dartmouth Corsair Classic.
