Indoor Track Teams Compete at Wheaton College Invitational

NORTON, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State College men's and women's indoor track teams placed sixth and 12th respectively at the Wheaton College Invitational on Saturday in Norton, Mass.

The men's squad registered a total of 41 points while the BSC women notched four points.  Both the Wheaton men's and women's teams came out on top with scores of 119 and 207 points respectively.

Senior Jason Williams (Bradford, MA), sophomores Ryan D'Arcangelo (Norfolk, MA) and Jack Riley (Abington, MA), and freshman Jeff Sousa (North Dighton, MA) all posted second place finishes in the men's meet.

Williams recorded a distance of 44'3.50" in the weight throw, while D'Arcangelo posted a time of 1:59.72 in the 800-meter run.  D'Arcangelo finished just 2/10 of a second off the top time and was also within three seconds of Tim Barrow's BSC record of 1:57.60 set last season.

Riley posted a height of 5'5.75" in the high jump, and Sousa registered a time of 16:53.18 in the 5,000-meter run.

Junior Calvin Moy (Framingham, MA) also notched a top-three placing for the Bears as he finished third in the weight throw with a toss of 35'6.50".

On the women's side, sophomore Amanda Hauswirth (Methuen, MA) finished in sixth place out of 25 competitors in the one-mile run with a time of 5:47.17.

Sophomore Kelli Hurst (Dedham, MA) placed fifth in the 5,000-meter run (21:18.95) while freshman Carrie Robitaille (Ludlow, MA) posted a distance of 30'11.25" in the triple jump to finish in sixth place.

The BSC indoor track and field teams will compete at the Tufts Invitational III next Saturday starting at 11 AM.
