BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman Aislyn Kelliher has been selected as the Little East Conference (LEC) Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week.
A native of Plymouth, Massachusetts, Kelliher was a perfect 3-0 at fourth flight singles last week and teamed with classmate Morgan Smith (Taunton, Mass.) for a 2-1 second doubles mark in three matches for the Bears which included a 9-0 LEC win over VTSU Castleton as well as a 7-0 non-conference victory against Curry College.
Kelliher posted a 6-0, 6-1 straight set triumph in the Bears' 6-3 setback to Little East regular season champion UMass Boston. She also won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1, and paired with Smith for a 6-2 doubles victory in the match with Curry. Kelliher capped off the week with a 6-0, 6-0 straight set decision over her opponent from Castleton and added an 8-2 doubles win.
As a rookie in 2024, Kelliher currently has an 11-1 singles record with a perfect 8-0 mark in the Little East. She is also 10-3 in doubles play, competing mostly with Smith, and 6-1 against LEC opponents.
Kelliher is the Bears' first LEC Women's Tennis Rookie of the Week since teammated Madeline Von Ruden (Ashley Falls, Mass.) earned the honor three times in 2021.
The BSU women's tennis team will be back in action on Tuesday afternoon as the third-seeded Bears entertain sixth-seeded UMass Dartmouth in the opening round of the Little East Tournament. The match is slated to get underway at 3:30 from the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.
