Women's Tennis Posts 7-0 Senior Day Win Over Curry

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater Stater University women's tennis team earned a 7-0 Senior Day victory over visiting Curry College on Thursday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Bears improve to 8-3 on the season while the Colonels fall to 3-10. Bridgewater is 7-0 versus Curry since 2007 with five of the seven wins coming on the road. The last time the Colonels made the trek to Bridgewater prior to this afternoon was in 2009 (a 9-0 BSU win).

Following the conclusion of the match, the Bears honored senior Madeline Von Ruden (Ashley Falls, Mass.) and Meghan Lotti (Stoneham, Mass.).

Bridgewater swept the three doubles matches to earn the doubles point, and captured each of the six singles flights.

In doubles play, Lotti teamed with sophomore Samantha Bettencourt (Tiverton, R.I.) for a 6-1 win at number three while the freshman pairing of Aislyn Kelliher (Plymouth, Mass.) and Morgan Smith (Taunton, Mass.) posted a 6-2 triumph at the second flight. Von Ruden and graduate student Mackenzie Silveira (Middletown, R.I.) completed the doubles sweep with a 6-3 victory at the top spot.

All six singles matches were completed in straight sets. Lotti breezed to a 6-0, 6-0 win at number three and Von Ruden cruised to a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at the top flight to give the Bears a 3-0 lead. Bettencourt then secured the decisive fourth point with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at number six. Bridgewater also received straight set singles wins from Silveira at the second flight (6-4, 6-2), Kelliher at number four (6-3, 6-1) and freshman Sarah Pothier (Rochester, Mass.) at the fifth spot (6-4, 6-2).

Kelliher is now 10-1 on the season on singles play while Pothier checks in at 8-2 and Bettencourt is 7-2.

The doubles pairing of Kelliher and Smith improves to 7-1 on the year while the top flight tandem of Von Ruden and Silveira is now 7-2.

Bridgewater wraps up regular season play on Saturday afternoon as the Bears travel to VTSU Castleton for a two o'clock Little East Conference match with the Spartans.
