NEWPORT, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's tennis team competed on Thursday afternoon at the 37th Annual Newport Grass Court Doubles Tournament held at the International Tennis Hall of Fame.
The Bears' Flight C tandem of freshmen Sarah Pothier (Rochester, Mass.) and Aislyn Kelliher (Plymouth, Mass.) went 2-2 on the afternoon with a 6-2 win over their opponents from Salve Regina University as well as a 6-1 decision against Roger Williams University.
The Flight B pairing of senior Meghan Lotti (Stoneham, Mass.) and sophomore Samantha Bettencourt (Tiverton, R.I.) finished 1-3 on the afternoon including a 6-3 victory over Roger Williams University.
Freshman Fiona Clancy (Middleboro, Mass.) and junior Hannah Higgins (Rockland, Mass.) also went 1-3 competing out of flight D. The duo recorded a 6-2 win against Gordon College.
Bridgewater State placed fifth in the team standings with a score of 37 points. Roger Williams captured the team title with 68 points.
In upcoming action, the Bears entertain Little East Conference (LEC) foe University of Southern Maine on Saturday afternoon at one o'clock from the Rosen Memorial Courts.
