Women's Swimming & Diving Splits ECONN Tri-Meet

WILLIMANTIC, Conn. -- The Bridgewater State University women's swimming & diving team opened the second semester with a win and a loss.

The Bears scored a 180-79 victory over Rhode Island College and were defeated by host Eastern Connecticut State University, 195-66, in a tri-meet on Wednesday afternoon.

BSU took part in its first competition since hosting the BSU Invitational on Dec. 7. The Bears returned home earlier this week after a training trip to Puerto Rico.

Graduate student Brynn Murray (Chelmsford, Mass.) finished second in two individual events and was part of two relay teams that placed second to Eastern Connecticut State.

Murray was second in the 200 butterfly in 2:42.37 and also the 500 freestyle in 6:09.23.

She joined junior Julie Remson (Norwalk, Conn.), senior Summer Martin (Norton, Mass.) and senior Jenna Fiebiger (Johannesburg, South Africa) on the 200 medley relay team that was second in 2:03.38.

Murray also swam on the 200 freestyle relay team that was second. She was with Fiebiger, senior Brianna Matte (Cumberland, R.I.) and senior Olivia Pelletier (East Kingston, N.H.) in that race.

Junior Emily Bradford (Pittsfield, Mass.) was second in the 1,000 freestyle in 12:21.86 and third in the 50 freestyle in 28.92.

Senior Renee Goodale (Vineyard Haven, Mass.) took third in the 200 freestyle in 2:14.71 while Remson was third in the 100 backstroke in 1:09.68.

Matte was third in the 200 butterfly in 2:44.25 while Pelletier placed third in the 100 freestyle in 1:00.69. Martin took third in the 200 breaststroke in 2:55.60.

The Bears will be in a tri-meet on Saturday afternoon in New Hampshire against host Keene State and Brandeis University.
