Simard Sets Diving Mark to Lead Women's Swimming & Diving at BSU Invitational

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Junior Cailey Simard (Haverhill, Mass.) broke her own school record to help the Bridgewater State University women's swimming & division team to victory Saturday.

Simard won two events and established a new mark in 1-meter diving as the Bears won the Bridgewater State Invitational at the Moriarty Pool.

BSU had 717 points to finish ahead of Westfield State University (319) and Western New England (260). They were followed by Rhode Island College (226), UMass Dartmouth (200) and Plymouth State University (168).

Simard had a score of 320.90 in 1-meter diving, breaking the mark of 316.70 she set last season in a meet against Plymouth State.

Simard was also first in 3-meter diving with a score of 299.55.

Senior Brianna Matte (Cumberland, R.I.) won three events for the Bears.

She was first in the 400 individual medley in 5:10.69 and won the 500 freestyle in 5:49.89 and the 200 individual medley in 2:28.59.

Junior Julie Remson (Norwalk, Conn.) won two events for BSU.

Remson was first in the 100 backstroke in 1:03.48 and the 50 backstroke in 29.36.

Also winning two events was graduate student Brynn Murray (Chelmsford, Mass.).

Murray won the 100 butterfly in 1:05.83 and the 200 freestyle in 2:05.83.

Junior Emily Bradford (Pittsfield, Mass.) won the 1,000 freestyle in 12:14.49 and senior Jenna Fiebiger (Johannesburg, South Africa) was the winner in the 100 freestyle in 57.49.

Senior Summer Martin (Norton, Mass.) won the 100 breaststroke in 1:13.34.

The BSU 200 medley relay team of Remson, Martin, Murray and Fiebiger was first in 1:56.04 while the 200 freestyle team of Murray, Matte, Fiebiger and Olivia Pellitier (East Kingston, N.H.) also won.

The Bears are idle until Jan. 15 when they are at Eastern Connecticut State.
