BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's swimming and diving team dropped a 185-93 decision to Division II Bentley University on Tuesday evening at the Mary Jo Moriarty Pool.
The Bears had some solid performances against a very good Bentley squad including three first place finishes.
Senior Renee Marcos (Lakeville, Mass.), sophomores Ashley Dunican (Bennington, Vt.) and Nelia Borden (Fall River, Mass.) and freshman Sarah Rechtiene (Southbury, Conn.) opened the meet with a winning time of 2:02.93 in the 200 medley relay. Rechtiene's 50 breaststroke time of 33.15 seconds in her leg of the relay was just 4/10 of a second shy of Jillian Coache's 2008 school mark of 32.75 seconds.
Marcos also grabbed first place in the 50 breaststroke touching the wall in 36.39 seconds, while freshman Kristen Carey (East Taunton, Mass.) won the 200 freestyle with a season-best time of 2:08.92. Junior Bridget Hasson (Milton, Mass.) added a second place showing in the 50 butterfly (30.10 seconds).
Bridgewater slips to 4-9 in dual meet competition with the loss, while Bentley improves to 8-1. The Bears will host Babson College on Thursday at 6:00 PM in their final home meet of the season.
