Women's Swimming & Divings Downs Gordon, 169-104

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's swimming and diving team earned a 169-104 victory over visiting Gordon College on Tuesday evening at the Mary Jo Moriarty Pool in Bridgewater.

The win improves the Bears' dual meet record to 3-4 on the season while Gordon slips to 0-7 overall.

Freshman diver Christina Minich (Wellesley, Mass.) posted personal best scores on the one and three meter boards as she won both events.  Minich registered a score of 204.82 points on the one-meter and 191.10 on the three.

Sophomore Ashley Dunican (Bennington, Vt.) won both backstroke events with times of 32.39 seconds in the 50 and 1:10.08 in the 100.  Dunican also swam a leg on the Bears' winning 200 medley relay team (2:05.40) along with senior Renee Marcos (Lakeville, Mass.) and freshmen Taylor Brochu (Cotuit, Mass.) and Sarah Rechtiene (Southbury, Conn.).

Brochu added individual victories in the 50 freestyle (27.25) and 100 individual medley (1:07.20), both season bests, while Rechtiene touched the wall first in the 50 breaststroke (35.01).

Junior Bridget Hasson (Milton, Mass.) and sophomore Chelsea Nolan (Lowell, Mass.) also won events for Bridgewater in the 500 freestyle (6:00.44) and 1,000 freestyle (12:10.48), respectively.

The Bears' 200 freestyle relay squad of Marcos, Brochu, Rechtiene and sophomore Nelia Borden (Fall River, Mass.) recorded a season-best time of 1:50.81.

Bridgewater travels to Eastern Connecticut State University on Saturday for their last meet before the semester break.
