Women's Soccer Battles Gordon to 1-1 Draw

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's soccer team played to a tie for a second straight game on Wednesday night.

The Bears used an own goal to gain a 1-1 tie with Gordon College in a non-conference game at Mazzaferro Field.

BSU had tied Westfield State University by the same 1-1 score last Saturday.

It marks the first time since September 2016 that the Bears played to a tie in back-to-back games. They tied both the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts and Salve Regina, 0-0, on Sept. 16 and 20.

BSU is now 2-0-1 against Gordon, winning in 2019 and last season.

The Bears are 3-5-2 while the Fighting Scots are 3-6-1.

After a scoreless first half, Gordon took a 1-0 lead at 67:17 when junior Eowyn Lapp (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) was assisted by junior Jade La Bossier (Bellevue, Wash.).

A throw-in from the left side was chipped into the box and was misplayed by the BSU defense.

La Bossier sent a short centering pass to Lapp, wkho fired a shot into the left side of the net for her ninth goal.

The Bears got on the scoreboard at 75:24 on an own goal to tie it.

A cross from senior Olivia Robarge (Pepperell, Mass.) on the right was knocked into the net by a Gordon defender in front.

BSU senior goalkeeper Logan Levesque (Bristol, R.I.) made five saves while Gordon senior Jesse Skov (Westport, Mass.) had six saves, five of them in the first half. Skov, normally a field player, was making the emergency start between the pipes for the Fighting Scots' who were with out their two goalkeepers.

The Fighting Scots had a 13-12 edge in overall shots. Robarge led BSU with three shots on goal.

The Bears will be at Worcester State for a 5:30 p.m. game on Saturday.

Gordon will be at the University of Hartford on Saturday at 3 p.m.
