NORTON, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's soccer team fell to 1-3 with a road loss to Wheaton College Wednesday afternoon.
The Bears were defeated by the Lyons, 3-0, at Mirrione Stadium and are now 1-12-1 against Wheaton since the series began in 1992.
Wheaton held a 1-0 halftime lead and scored twice within 32 seconds in the second half.
The Bears were outshot, 35-12, and Wheaton held a 21-7 edge in shots on goal while improving to 3-1 with its third shutout victory of the season.
The Lyons went ahead 16:17 into the game when senior Kate Wickenheisser (Oxford, Conn>) scored, assisted by senior Julia Sternat (Ellington, Conn.).
The BSU defense misplayed a ball after a Wheaton corner kick, leading to the Lyons' goal.
Wheaton made it 2-0 at 63:44 with freshman Karina Contreras (Pawtucket, R.I.) getting the goal, assisted by senior Ali Roche (Maynard, Mass.).
Contreras split the BSU defense after taking a feed from Roche and scored inside the left post.
At 64:16, Roche finished the scoring with an unassisted goal.
Roche moved behind the Bears' defense and scored inside the left post.
BSU senior goalkeeper Logan Levesque (Bristol, R.I.) made a career-high 18 saves with 11 of those coming in the first half.
Senior Patricia Bandrup (Poway, Calif.) played 80:24 and made seven saves for the Lyons. Freshman Olivia King (Simsbury, Conn.) finished the game and had no saves.
The Bears are on the road Friday night, facing the Massachusetts Maritime Academy at 7 p.m. Coach Yasmina Carvalho will again be bidding for her 100th career win.
The Lyons are off until next Wednesday when they play Roger Williams at 4 p.m.
