Women's Soccer Posts 2-0 MASCAC Shutout Over Salem State

SALEM, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University women's soccer team made it four wins in a row on Saturday afternoon.

Junior goalkeeper Logan Levesque (Bristol, R.I.) recorded her third shutout of the season and the second in the last three games as the Bears defeated Salem State University, 2-0.

The win keeps BSU (7-3-2 overall) right behind Westfield State University in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference standings. The Owls are in first place with a 4-0
mark while the Bears are 3-0-1, and the two teams meet on Oct. 26.

Levesque made four saves against the Vikings and now has 14.5 career shutouts, moving her into sole possession of fourth place in the school record book, ahead of Emily Schlosser (13.5) and just behind third-place Maura Cacciatore (15.5).

Levesque also  moved into sole possessionof fourth place at BSU with her 24th win, breaking a tie with Schlosser.

Levesque denied a pair of Salem State bids in the first half just before BSU broke a scoreless tie.

The Bears scored a goal in each half and dominated with a 20-4 advantage in shots on goal and a 28-6 edge in shots.

BSU broke into the scoring column at 26:30 when graduate student Emily McCormack (East Bridgewater, Mass.) netted her fifth goal of the season.

McCormack got behind the Salem State defense off a long pass from senior Makenna Lessard (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and flicked a shot off the fingertips of sophomore goalkeeper Ava Guyer (East Granby, Conn.) and into the left side of the cage.

BSU's second goal came at 62:23 on a set play off a free kick.

After a foul was called on the Vikings just outside the box on the right, the Bears had six players line up on the left side of the box.

Junior Abigail Shea (Somerset, Mass.), who took the restart, sent a pass to senior Sydney Dewhurst (East Bridgewater, Mass.), who moved from the left to the center of the box and buried a shot inside the left post for her fifth goal.

With her goal, Dewhurst now has 53 points in her BSU career as she moved into a tie with Megan Williamson (2005-08) for 11th place on the Bears' all-time scoring list.

BSU had a number of chances against Guyer, and senior Makenna Lessard (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and McCormack had three shots on goal apiece.

The Bears are idle until next Saturday at noon when they host the Massachusetts Maritime Academy at Mazzaferro Field on Senior Day.

Salem State (2-7-2, 1-2-1 MASCAC) hosts Thomas on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
