Dewhurst Leads Women's Soccer to 3-1 Win Over Curry

MILTON, Mass. -- Sydney Dewhurst (East Bridgewater, Mass.) had a goal and a pair of assists to lead the Bridgewater State University women's soccer team to a third straight win.

The Bears overcame an early 1-0 deficit and scored a 3-1 non-conference victory over Curry College on Wednesday night at Walter M. Katz Field.

Dewhurst, a senior, tallied her fourth goal of the season and added her team-leading seventh and eighth assists as BSU improved to 6-3-2.

With her four points, Dewhurst increased her career total at BSU to 51 (17G, 17A) as she became the 13th player in program history to reach the 50-point milestone.

The Bears are now 3-1-1 on the road after snapping Curry's two-game winning streak. The Colonels, a member of the Conference of New England, fell to 5-5-2.

Curry jumped to a 1-0 lead just 3:26 into the game when senior Natalie Keenan (Haverhill, Mass.) scored from sophomore Mia Schena (Nahant, Mass.).

Schena split a pair of BSU defenders with a centering pass inside the 18. Keenan beat Bears junior goalkeeper Logan Levesque (Bristol, R.I.) one-on-one with a shot inside the left post.

BSU scored twice in a span of 8:28 to take a 2-1 halftime advantage.

Dewhurst converted off a restart from the right side, burying a shot from 20 yards out inside the near post at 21:03. Junior Jenna Sweeney (Wilmington, Mass.) assisted on the strike.

Junior Skylar Conrad (Walpole, Mass.) gave the Bears the lead at 29:31 when she headed home a cross sent into the six by junior Lauren Sellmayer (Easton, Mass.). Dewhurst picked up the secondary assist on Conrad's second goal of the 2024 campaign.

Sellmayer has recorded an assist in each of her first two games since returning from an injury suffered last season.

The lone goal of the second half came just two minutes into the stanza from graduate student Emily McCormack (East Bridgewater, Mass.).

McCormack got behind the Curry defense off a long volley from Dewhurst and flicked a shot into the left side of the cage for her fourth goal.

Levesque improved to 5-3-2, making four saves. All four shots on goal were by Keenan.

Curry senior goalkeeper Hannah Correa (Carver, Mass.) made 12 saves.

The Bears held a 24-8 shot advantage as well as a 15-4 edge in shots on goal. Junior Olivia Robarge (Pepperell, Mass.) and sophomore Natalie Mattos (Fairhaven, Mass.) had three shots on goal each for the winners.

BSU returns to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference on Saturday when it plays at Salem State at noon.

Curry will face the University of Hartford at 4 p.m. on Saturday.
