Women's Soccer Battles Wheaton to Scoreless Draw

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University and visiting Wheaton College played to a 0-0 draw in collegiate women's soccer action on Thursday night at Mazzaferro Field.

The Bears see their record go to 1-1-1 with the tie while the visiting Lyons are now 4-0-1. Wheaton holds an 11-1-1 lead in the all-time series which dates back to 1992.

BSU junior goalkeeper Logan Levesque (Bristol, R.I.) made eight saves to pick up her first shutout of the season, while Wheaton junior netminder Patricia Bandrup (Poway, Calif.) turned aside six shots to record her third shutout of the 2024 campaign.

Both teams had opportunities to break the scoreless tie throughout the evening.

Junior forward Olivia Robarge (Pepperell, Mass.) nearly got the Bears on the board just 49 seconds into the contest as she got behind the Wheaton defense, but her pressured shot was turned aside by Bandrup.

The Lyons attempted to capitalize on an odd-number rush off a BSU turnover in the 13th minute but a shot by sophomore forward Mackenna Reynolds (Longmeadow, Mass.) sailed wide of the far post.

Robarge ripped a shot on the right side from about 25 yards out that sailed over the crossbar in the 29th minute. Less than ten minutes later, Robarge fired a tough angle shot off the side of the post.

Levesque made a nice diving stop on a point-blank range shot by Lyons' freshman forward Gina Trovato (Simsbury, Conn.) in the 38th minute.

Robarge fired one over the crossbar from about 15 yards out in the early stages of the second half.

Wheaton freshman forward Reilly Hickey (Medford, Mass.) went one-on-one with the keeper coming in from the left side off a nice thru pass from junior midfielder Julia Sternat (Ellington, Conn.) but her shot hit the side of the net.

Reynolds rang one off the bottom of the crossbar in the 67th minute and Levesque was able to corral the dangerous rebound.

Wheaton held a 14-10 shot advantage for the game while Bridgewater held a 5-3 edge in corner kick attempts.

Robarge led all players with six shots including three on frame.

In upcoming action, the Bears host Lesley University on Saturday morning at 11:00 AM. The Lyons are off until next Wednesday afternoon when they entertain Union College at four o'clock.
