Women's Soccer Blanks UMass Dartmouth, 3-0

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Three different players scored as the Bridgewater State University women's soccer team posted a 3-0 shutout victory over visiting UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday night at rainy Swenson Field.

The Bears improve to 7-2-2 on the season, while the Corsairs fall to 3-7. Bridgewater is now 14-16-3 all-time against UMass with a 5-9-2 mark at home as the two teams have played every season since 1989. The victory marked the Bears' first home win over the Corsairs since 2010.

Senior forward Michelle Belcher (Norton, Mass.) opened the scoring in the 16th minute as she buried a left-footed shot from 25 yards out just over the outstretched hand of the UMD netminder and inside the left post. The goal marked Belcher's team-leading ninth of the season. Senior midfielder Delaney Langton assisted on the goal.

Graduate forward Madelyn Morin (East Longmeadow, Mass.) extended the BSU lead to 2-0 with her first goal of the 2022 campaign in the 38th minute with Langton collecting her second assist of the day. After receiving a pass from Langton on the left side, Morin cut back to the middle and ripped a low shot under the diving Corsair keeper from 26 yards out.

UMD sophomore netminder Madison Durkin (Cumberland, R.I.) made an outstanding diving stop in the waning seconds of the first half to keep it a two-goal game at the break.

Freshman forward Skylar Conrad (Walpole, Mass.) netted the first goal of her collegiate career in the 58th minute to give the hosts a 3-0 lead. Belcher sent in a deep corner kick to the far side of the field allowing Conrad to easily square it up for a picture-perfect header goal inside the near post.

UMass held a 23-12 shot advantage for the game as well as a 9-3 edge in corner kick attempts.

BSU freshman goalkeeper Logan Levesque (Bristol, R.I.) made eight saves on the night, including four key stops in the second half, to record her seventh win and fourth shutout of the season. Durkin turned aside three shots in the setback for the Corsairs.

The Bears entertain Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) rival Worcester State University on Saturday late afternoon at five o'clock, while the Corsairs host Roger Williams University on Thursday night at seven.

Notes: With her goal and assist, Belcher increased her BSU career total to 53 points (20G, 13A) as she moved into a tie for tenth place on the Bears' all-time scoring list.
