Women's Soccer Plays to 1-1 MASCAC Draw with Fitchburg

FITCHBURG, Mass. – Bridgewater Stater University and Fitchburg State University played to a 1-1 draw in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Matchup on Saturday afternoon at rainy Elliot Field in Fitchburg.

The Bears see their record go to 6-2-2 on the season and 2-0-1 in the MASCAC, while the Falcons are now 4-4-2 overall and 2-0-1 in conference play. The tie is just the Falcons' sixth tie or win versus the Bears in program history. Bridgewater holds a 24-3-3 advantage in the all-time series, which began in 1993, including a 9-2-3 mark on the road.

Both goals came in the second half.

Sophomore midfielder Sydney Sousa (Dartmouth, Mass.) broke the scoreless deadlock in the 80th minute. Graduate forward Madelyn Morin (East Longmeadow, Mass.) assisted on the strike. Sousa corralled a loose ball in the box to score her third goal of the season.

Freshman forward Adrianna Westcott (Sayreville, N.J.) knotted the game at 1-1 in the 87th minute with junior midfielder Maddie Hippert (Worcester, Mass.) and senior midfielder Patricia Pallotta (Sterling, Mass.) assisting on the goal. Pallotta started the play with a direct kick from the sideline that found Hippert who tipped it to Westcott for the rookie's third goal of the season.

Bridgewater finished with a 27-11 shot advantage for the game as well as an 11-3 edge in corner kick attempts.

Senior netminder Allison Gough (Wolcott, Conn.) made 13 saves on the afternoon for the Falcons. Gough  Gough stopped a penalty kick off the boot of BSU junior midfielder Makenna Lessard (East Bridgewater, Mass.) in the 21st minute. while freshman keeper Logan Levesque (Bristol, R.I.) turned aside four shots for the Bears.

Both teams are back in action on Tuesday night. The Bears entertain UMass Dartmouth at seven, while the Falcons travel to Eastern Nazarene College.
