Women's Soccer Blanks Fitchburg State, 2-0

FITCHBURG, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's soccer team remained unbeaten in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) play as the Bears blanked host Fitchburg State University, 2-0, on Saturday morning at Elliot Field.

The Bears improve to 5-3-4 on the season and 4-0-1 in the MASCAC, while the Falcons fall to 5-9 overall and 2-3 in conference competition.

After an own goal opened the scoring in the 27th minute, the Bears pushed the lead to 2-0 less than six minutes later when freshman forward Alana Vincent (Taunton, Mass.) converted a pass from sophomore teammate Yasmina Teixeira (Brockton, Mass.) for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

The Falcons' best scoring chances came in the first half with a pair of hard breakout shots from senior midfielder Ali Sheehan (Southwick, Mass.) that were easily turned aside by BSU junior netminder Lauren DeSousa (Taunton, Mass.).

DeSousa finished with just the two saves as she recorded her fifth win and seventh shutout of the season. DeSousa and the Bears have yet top surrender a goal in MASCAC play this season.

Freshman goalkeeper Alexandra Foster (Leominster, Mass.) had 12 saves in the game for the Falcons.

The Bears held a decided 14-2 shot advantage for the game as well as a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.

Both teams return to action on Wednesday night. The Falcons host the University of Southern Maine at 7:00 OM, while the Bears travel to Keene State for a six o'clock game with the Owls.
