Women's Soccer Blanked by Keene State, 3-0

KEENE, N.H. – The Keene State women's soccer team celebrated senior night with a 3-0 victory over Bridgewater State University at Owl Athletic Complex on Wednesday.

After a scoreless first half, Keene State (12-5-2) scored two quick goals at the start of the second half to go up 2-0.  Sophomore Joan Hamel (Weare, N.H.) gave KSC a 1-0 lead with her sixth goal of the season at the 49:04 mark.  Taking a pass just inside the box from senior Katie Bradford (Lebanon, N.H.), Hamel fired a shot that deflected off a BSC defender and into the net.

Freshman Jessica Berthiaume (Worcester, Mass.) made it a 2-0 game 52 second later with her 12th goal of the season.  Bradford set up the goal with a lead pass to Berthiaume, who put a shot over Bear senior goalie Kayla Grover (Haverhill, Mass.)

Freshman Hayley Kenyon (Exeter, R.I.) scored the Owls' final goal at the 72:14 mark, sliding in front of the net and converting a crossing ball from senior Nora Mahoney for her fourth goal of the season.

Keene State had multiple opportunities to get on the board in the first half.  After Grover made a diving save on a bid by Mahoney, Berthiaume, looking at an open net, fired the ball just over the crossbar.  Berthiaume hit the crossbar with a shot in the first minute of play in the second half.

An airtight Owl defense held Bridgewater State to just three shots on goal in the game.  Overall, KSC outshot the Bears 29-4.

KSC junior goalie Megan Dempsey (East Weymouth, Mass.) made three saves to notch her seventh shutout of the season.

Grover finished the game with six saves for BSU (6-9).

Prior to the game Keene State honored seniors Bradford and Mahoney.

Keene State concludes its regular season at Southern Maine on Saturday. Bridgewater State returns home to face Mass. College of Liberal Arts on Saturday.
