Women's Soccer Falls to Brandeis, 6-0

Box Score

WALTHAM, Mass. - Five different Brandeis University players scored goals today as the Judges defeated the visiting Bridgewater State College Bears, 6-0, in a non-conference women's soccer match-up on Gordon Field.

The six goals scored by the Judges were the most in a single game since 2005.

Leading the way were forwards Tiffany Pacheco (Rehoboth, MA) and Melissa Gorenkoff (Woodbury, NY). Pacheco, a junior, recorded a career-high five points with two goals and an assist. Senior co-captain Gorenkoff registered a goal and two helpers, moving into a tie for second place on Brandeis's career assist list with 21. She is tied with Kellie Vaughn '88 and sits two behind Pam Vaughn '89.

Pacheco and Gorenkoff opened the scoring in the eighth minute. Pacheco sent a long through ball that freed Gorenkoff for a one-on-one with Bridgewater State rookie goalkeeper Allison Dexter (Plymouth, MA). The senior converted for her first goal of the season and the 21st of her career. The pair teamed up for Brandeis's next goal in the 22nd minute. Gorenkoff's corner kick was sent to the net by sophomore midfielder Ali Theodore (Walpole, MA) and tipped home by Pacheco, who was running interference on Dexter.

Brandeis scored again just 30 seconds later, when Gorenkoff found junior Sofia Vallone (Westport, CT), who blasted a nicely angled shot. Junior Ruth Orbach (Bellevue, WA) added the team's final goal of the first half with just 56 seconds on the clock as she headed home service by rookie Stevie Phillis (Nashua, NH).

The Judges added two second-half goals as Theodore assisted Pacheco in the 56th minute and junior Kelly Cozzens (Lancaster, MA) tallied in the 73rd minute. The win was Brandeis's biggest since a 7-0 win over Westfield State, Sept. 27, 2005.

Dexter finished with seven saves for Bridgewater State, while Brandeis senior Hillary Rosenzweig (Boca Raton, FL) had two stops in just over 72 minutes and sophomore Elyse Phillips (Olney, MD) had one in the final 17:32.

Brandeis improves to 3-1-1 with the win, while BSC falls to 1-2-1. The Judges are next in action on Sunday afternoon at noon when they take on Clark University. Bridgewater State opens MASCAC play at Mass. College Saturday at 2 p.m.
