Women's Basketball Rolls to 78-53 Win Over Regis

WESTON, Mass. – The Bridgewater State University women's basketball team remained unbeaten on the season as the visiting Bears posted a 78-53 victory over Regis College on Saturday afternoon at Higgins Court.

The Bears improve to 3-0 on the season, while the host Pride fall to 0-2.

Sophomore forward Kylie Grassi (Plymouth, Mass.) led a trio of Bears in double-digit scoring. Grassi tallied 17 points as well as four rebounds, four assists and three steals, while senior guard Sydney Bradbury (East Bridgewater, Mass.) notched 16 points on 4 of 9 shooting from behind the arc, to go along with six boards. Senior guard Kylee Piche (Bridgewater, Mass.) checked in with 11 points, a game-high seven assists and three steals.

Sophomore forward Arielle Cleveland (Groveland, Mass.), senior guard Sophia Gaucher (Lakeville, Mass.) and freshman forward Kennedy Franklin (New Bedford, Mass.) added nine points each for Bridgewater State. Gaucher and Franklin also pulled down five rebounds apiece.

Senior guard Pam Gonzalez (Revere, Mass.) led the Pride offensively, scoring 18 points on 7-for-11 shooting from the field while going 2-for-3 from three-point range and accumulating four steals. Graduate forward Valerie Whalen (Stoughton, Mass.) grabbed a game-high 17 rebounds while freshman forward Madi Zancan (Cumberland, R.I.) chipped in with 12 points.

Bridgewater came out strong as the Bears shot 10-for-17 in the first quarter including 3-for-4 from behind the arc. The visitors led 28-18 after one. A Bradbury three-pointer started a 14-point run in the second quarter as the Bears held the Pride to just eight points in the period. Bridgewater would take a 46-24 lead into the break.

The Bears got up by as many as 31 points (59-28) in the second half and coasted to the 78-53 victory.

Bridgewater shot 45% (27-60) from the floor, 45% (9-20) from three-point range and 71% (15-21) at the free throw line.

Defensively, the Bears forced 22 turnovers and limited the Pride to 32% (20-62) shooting from the field.

The Bears are off until next Friday (6:00 PM) when they take on Wellesley College in the BSU Cave Classic. The Pride travel to Wheaton College on Wednesday night for a seven o'clock game with the Lyons.
