Women's Basketball Cruises to 75-41 Win over Worcester State

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. - In MASCAC women's basketball action, the Bridgewater State College women's basketball team dominated play in the second half as the Bears rolled to a 75-41 victory over Worcester State College this evening from the Tinsley Center.

The Bears, who outscored then Lancers in the second half by a margin of 45-18, improved to 18-4 on the season and more importantly 9-1 in the MASCAC.  Worcester falls to 8-15 overall and 6-5 in conference play.

Bridgewater was led by the outstanding play of senior starters Colleen Feeney (Providence, RI), Caitlin Feeney (Providence, RI), and Justine Farroba (North Attleboro, MA), and junior starter Ashley Coucci (Dartmouth, MA), who combined to score 69 of the team's 75 points.

Colleen Feeney posted her 20th double-double of the season as she scored a game-high 25 points on 10 of 16 shooting and pulled down a game-high 12 rebounds.

Caitlin Feeney scored 20 points to go along with 8 rebounds 4 assists and 2 steals.  All 20 of her points came in the second half as she single-handedly outscored the Lancers, 20-18, in the final stanza. Caitlin needs just four points to become the 13th player in BSC women's basketball history to reach the 1,000-point milestone.

Farroba, who connected on 3 of 4 three-point attempts in the second half, added 13 points, 4 steals and a pair of assists.  Coucci came within a rebound of her first career double-double as she chipped in with 11 points and 9 rebounds.  She also added 4 blocked shots, 2 steals and 2 assists.

Bridgewater looked as though they would have a double digit lead at halftime as the Bears led 30-17 heading into the final minute of the opening stanza.  Worcester, however, scored six unanswered points to end the half and trailed 30-23 at the intermission.

The second half was all Bridgewater State as the Bears put the game away with a 20-4 run over the first 5 ½  minutes of the second half and never looked back.  Bridgewater got up by as many as 36 points before coming away with the 75-41 win and a sweep of the season series.

The Bears shot 56% from the floor in the second half (18-for-32) and 50% for the game (31-for-62). BSC also forced 23 turnovers and out-rebounded the Lancers, 40-37, despite giving up 20 offensive boards. Worcester, on the other hand, struggled all game long form the floor connecting on just 14 of 53 field goal attempts (26%).

Worcester was led by freshman guard Alexis George (Worcester, MA) who scored 16 points on 7 of 13 shooting. George also added 4 rebounds and 2 blocked shots.  Senior guard Lindsay DelleChiaie (Leominster, MA) added 9 points and 9 rebounds for the Lancers.    

Bridgewater is back in action on Thursday night as the Bears head to Salem State College for a key MASCAC tilt with the Lady Vikings.  Tip-off is slated for 6 PM.  BSC and Salem are currently tied atop the conference standings.  The Bears defeated the Lady Vikings earlier this season in Bridgewater by a score of 55-54.

Worcester is off until Saturday at 2 PM when they wrap up the regular season at home against Salem.
