Women's Basketball Edges Worcester State, 62-58

WORCESTER, Mass. - Senior forward Colleen Feeney (Providence, RI) posted her 15th double-double of the season with 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead the visiting Bridgewater State College women's basketball team to a 62-58 victory over Worcester State this evening from Lancer Gymnasium.

The loss drops the Lancers to 5-12 overall and 3-2 in the MASCAC.  Bridgewater State improves to 13-3 on the season and remains undefeated in conference play with a 4-0 mark.

Bridgewater took a 30-27 lead into the break behind 9 first half points from Feeney. 

Both teams struggled from the floor in the half as Worcester State shot 39% while the visitors shot 36%.  Bridgewater also connected on just 5 of 11 (46%) free throw attempts.

The Lancers were paced by junior guard Erin McCullough (Harvard, MA) and freshman guard Alexis George (Worcester, MA) who each scored 8 first half points.  Senior forward Maureen Lemay (Nashua, NH) was immense on the boards grabbing 10 first half rebounds.

In the second half, Bridgewater State increased their margin to 11 on a lay-up by Feeney with 12:05 remaining before the Lancers put on a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to three points at 46-43 with 7:35 left.

Bridgewater State nudged their advantage back up to seven points before senior guard Lindsay DelleChiaie (Leominster, MA) scored eight of the Lancer's next nine points, including a pair of three-pointers, to cut the deficit down to two points (54-52).

A pair of free throws by sophomore Brianne Flanders (Southampton, MA) made the game a two-point contest for the final time with 2:12 remaining.  Neither team would score again until there were 21 seconds remaining when Bridgewater State iced it with a steal by Colleen Feeney and a pair of free throws from senior guard Caitlin Feeney (Providence, RI).

BSC shot 52% (12-for-23) from the floor in the second half and connected on 8 of 10 free throw attempts.

Three Lancers reached double digits in scoring led by McCullough who finished the night with 16 points.  DelleChiaie, on the strength of 4 three balls added 14 while George chipped in with 11. 

Caitlin Feeney added 10 points, 4 assists, 3 steals and 3 rebounds in the Bear victory.

Worcester State will travel to Salem State on Saturday to take on the Lady Vikings. Bridgewater State will host the Lady Vikings this Thursday evening at 6 PM.
