McKayla Cusack Named MASCAC Softball Pitcher of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior righthander McKayla Cusack has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Softball Pitcher of the Week.

A native of West Haven, Connecticut, Cusack went 3-0 in the circle for the Bears last week with a pair of complete games, nine strikeouts and an impressive 0.88 earned run average over 16 innings of work.

Cusack allowed a run on eight hits with a pair of walks and two strikeouts in a 5-1 win complete game win over MASCAC regular season champion Westfield State. She also gave up a run on four hits with six strikeouts over seven complete innings in a 7-1 victory over Vermont State Lyndon; and tossed two scoreless and hitless innings of relief with a walk and a strikeout in a 7-4 triumph over Salve Regina.

In 16 appearances this season including 13 starts, Cusack is 8-6 with eight complete games a pair of shutouts and one save. She has struck out 37 batter and walked only 12 over 82 1/3 innings and currently sports a 3.06 earned runs average.

Cusack presently ranks sixth in the MASCAC in ERA and is tied for fourth in shutouts. She is also tied for seventh among the conference pitching leaders in wins and tied for eighth both starts and innings pitched.

In 65 appearances (44 starts) over four seasons with the Bears. Cusack is 18-20 with 16 complete games, four shutouts and three saves. She has fanned 124 batters over 248 2/3 innings of work and checks in with a career 4.28 ERA.

The MASCAC Pitcher of the Week honor marks the first of Cusack's career.

The BSU softball team wrapped up the regular season with an overall record of 19-17 including an 8-6 MASCAC mark. The Bears are the #4 seed in this week's MASCAC Tournament and will host a preliminary round game against #5 Salem State University on Tuesday afternoon at 3:30.
