Softball Blanks Stevens, Falls to Drew

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- Junior Jessica Laudati (Berkley, Mass.) went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles, and senior righthander Amber White (Middleboro, Mass.) tossed her third shutout of the season, to lead the Bridgewater State University softball team to a 3-0 victory over Stevens Institute of Technology on Tuesday morning at the Gene Cusic Collegiate Classic in Fort Myers.

The Bears (4-4) dropped an 8-0 decision in five innings to Drew University in their second game of the day.

Laudati drove in all three runs for the Bears in the win over the Ducks.  Her two-run double in the third gave BSU a 2-0 lead.  She added an RBI double in the fifth to cap off the scoring.

Sophomore Karissa Pagan (Brockton, Mass.) went 1-for-3 at the plate and scored two of the Bears' three runs.

White scattered three hits, walked two and struck out four to improve to 4-0 on the young season.  She extended her scoreless inning streak to 19 1/3 innings.

In four appearances, White has four complete games to her credit and has given up just two unearned runs in 28 innings of work.

Drew 8, Bridgewater State 0 (5 inn.)

Bridgewater struggled both offensively and defensively in the 8-0 loss to Drew.

On offense, the Bears managed just two hits in the game, produced only three base runners and did not have a runner reach second base.

Four BSU pitchers combined to give up ten hits and three walks in just five innings, while the defense committed two errors.

Junior Rebecca Hutsebaut (Vernon, N.J.) paced the Rangers' ten-hit attack as she went 3-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.

Sophomore righthander Kristin Zeigler (Collegeville, Pa.) picked up the win in the circle for Drew as she tossed a complete game, two hit shutout.  Zeigler (3-0) struck out one and did not issue a walk.

Sophomore Sheila O'Sullivan (Westwood, Mass.) singled in the second and freshman Tara McCann (Fall River, Mass.) rapped a base hit in the fourth to account for the Bears' only two hits in the game.

Freshman Lindsey Musco (Glastonbury, Ct.) pitched well in relief for Bridgewater.  Musco retired five of the six batters she faced giving up just a walk in 1 2/3 innings.

The Bears' Florida schedule continues on Wednesday morning when they take on Bethany Lutheran College at nine and Wentworth at 11.
