Softball Blanked by 9th Ranked Tufts, 4-0

MEDFORD, Mass. - Freshman Allyson Fournier (South Windsor, CT) pitched a one-hitter, and sophomores Kayla Holland (Attleboro, MA) and Jo Clair (Glastonbury, CT) both hit two-run homers as the ninth ranked Tufts University softball team won 4-0 against Bridgewater State University on Wednesday afternoon at Spicer Field.

Fournier allowed only a bunt single by Bridgewater sophomore Corrie McCue (New Bedford, MA) in the sixth inning. She struck out the first eight batters and finished with 15 K's and no walks. Fournier is now 12-0 for the season with a 0.46 earned run average and 135 strikeouts in 76.2 innings.

Bridgewater starter Amber White (Middleboro, MA) allowed just one hit through three innings and the game was tied 0-0. In the bottom of the fourth, Holland put Tufts on the board with a two-out, two-run home run.

White was replaced by junior Meghan Dunn (Colchester, CT) in the pitcher's circle for the Bears in the sixth. Dunn allowed a two-run blast by Clair to make it 4-0.

White and Dunn allowed just four Tufts hits and neither walked a batter. White took the loss, falling to 12-4 after giving up three hits and two runs with two strikeouts in five innings.

Tufts junior 2B Emily Beinecke (Concord, MA) twice reached on fielder's choices and scored both times.

The Jumbos improved to 24-4 heading into the weekend's three-game NESCAC East series at Bates. They can clinch the top seed in the division with one win. Bridgewater State (23-8) plays a MASCAC doubleheader at Worcester State on Saturday.
