Nelson Desilvestre comes to BSU with decades of coaching experience. He started at Beverly High School as an assistant in 1993 and became the boy’s head track coach in 1995. When he was the head track coach at Northern Essex Community College, his women’s team finished 23rd in 2018 and 17th in 2019 and qualified an athlete in 2022 for the NJCAA Division III Outdoor Championships. He coached an athlete to All-American status in the 1500 and 5000 and another athlete in the steeplechase and high jump who also qualified for Nationals in the 800. From 2017 - 2019, the men were ranked in the top 25 nationally and had NCJAA Outdoor National qualifiers in 2017, ‘19 and ’22 with the men finishing 23rd in 2022 producing a USTFCCA All-American in the high hurdles. In 2019, he had an 800 runner qualify for Nationals.
 
While coaching the distance team Manchester-Essex Regional High School in 2023, his boy’s miler finished 12th in Massachusetts Meet of Champions and had 3 milers qualify for the Division V championship meet. Also, while coaching the boys, he was named Cape Ann League Coach of the Year and won the schools’ only league championship in 2015. He had 3 athletes qualify for high school New Balance Nationals. In 2022, his girl’s 600 runner finished 11th in the Massachusetts Meet of Champions and in 2023, 2 athletes qualified in the Divisional V championship meet in the mile as well as 1 athlete in the 2 mile.
 
Prior to that, he was the Head Boys Track Coach at Beverly High School where he accumulated 214 wins for indoor and outdoor and was voted coach of the year for the Northeast Conference in 2003 and 2010. He coached 5 Northeast Conference MVPs during that timeframe and had several distance runners qualify for the Massachusetts MIAA State championships over the years.
 
During his athletic career, Nelson graduated from The University of Maine-Orono as an eight-time letter winner. He concentrated on the triple jump and participated in the long jump as well as running in the 200 and 4 x 400 relays. He was a three time All New England performer in the Triple Jump. He ran at Beverly High School and is the holder of two school, and three relay records as well as holding single season and career point totals. In 2011, he was elected to the Beverly High School Sports Hall of Fame.
Nelson has a level 200 certification from USTFCCCA as well as MIAA and NFHS coaching certifications. He is also a member of the MSTCO and has officiated multiple high school and college meets.
