BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the third time this season, Bridgewater State University senior Kevin McBirney has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.

McBirney placed third in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.00 this past weekend at the Tufts National Qualifier. With the performance, the East Bridgewater, Massachusetts product moved into the top 20 in all of Division III in the 800 and qualified for the NCAA championships for the first time in his career.

McBirney currently ranks 19th in all of Division III in the 800 and fourth in the East Region.

The MASCAC Track Athlete of the Week honor marks the 12th of McBirney's career including eight indoor distinctions. He has also earned MASCAC Runner of the Week accolades nine times over the past two cross country seasons.

McBirney and fellow teammate Alex Huynh (Fr., Stoughton, Mass.) will compete later this week at the NCAA DIII Indoor Track & Field Championships hosted by Nazareth University in Rochester, New York.
