BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University senior Kevin McBirney has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Indoor Track Athlete of the Week.
McBirney broke the school record in the 800-meter run this past weekend at the Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invitational hosted by Boston University. The East Bridgewater, Massachusetts product posted a time of 1:52.54 to finish 28th out of a field of 71 runners comprised of mostly Division I student-athletes. He eclipsed the Bears' previous school indoor standard of 1:53.00 set by Joshua Higgins in 2018.
McBirney currently ranks 14th in all of Division III in the 800 and third in the East Region.
The MASCAC Track Athlete of the Week honor marks the 11th of McBirney's career including seven indoor distinctions. He has also earned MASCAC Runner of the Week accolades nine times over the past two cross country seasons.
The BSU men's track & field team will compete on Sunday afternoon (3:30 PM) at the MASCAC Championships held at Wheaton College.
