
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman Alex Huynh has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Indoor Field Athlete and Rookie of the Week.
Huynh broke his own school record and earned All-New England honors in the high jump this past weekend at the Division III New England Indoor Championships held at The Track at New Balance. The Stoughton, Massachusetts resident placed second in the event with a leap of six feet, 8.75 inches (2.05m) as he eclipsed his previous BSU indoor standard of six feet, 7.5 inches (2.02m) recorded earlier this season at the Reggie Open.
Huynh also placed fourth and earned All-New England honors in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 22 feet, 11 inches (6.98m).
Huynh currently ranks 11th in all of Division III in the high jump and second in the East Region. He is also fourth in the East Region in the long jump.
The MASCAC Rookie of the Week honor marks the sixth of the season for Huynh, while the MASCAC Field Athlete of the Week accolade is his third.
Qualifying members of the BSU men's track & field team with compete on Friday and/or Saturday at the NEICAAA Indoor Track & Field Championships also held at Reggie Lewis Track & Athletic Center. Select Bears may also compete at the Tufts Qualifying Meet on Saturday.
