Alex Huynh Named MASCAC Men's Indoor Field Athlete & Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University freshman Alex Huynh has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men's Indoor Field Athlete and Rookie of the Week.

Huynh broke the school record in the high jump last week at the Reggie Open held at the Reggie Lewis Center. The Stoughton, Massachusetts product captured top honors in the event with a leap of six feet, 7.5 inches (2.02m) as he eclipsed the Bears' previous indoor standard of six feet, 5.5 inches (1.97) set by Exondus Barnes in 2020. Huynh's mark also topped Barnes' outdoor record of six feet, seven inches (2.01m) set in 2021.

Huynh is currently tied for 16th in all of Division III in the high jump and ranks third in the East Region.

The MASCAC Rookie of the Week honor marks the third of the season for Huynh, while the MASCAC Field Athlete of the Week accolade is his second.

The indoor season continues for the BSU track & field teams this coming weekend as majority of the squads will compete at the Harvard Open on Saturday. A couple of student-athletes will compete in the heptathlon at the Tuft Cupid Challenge on Friday and Saturday, while three student-athletes will compete at the Bruce Lehane Scarlet & White Invitational on Saturday at Boston University.
