King Wins Decathlon to Lead Men's Track & Field at Tufts Sunshine Classic

MEDFORD, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior Ryker King (Wareham, Mass.) won the decathlon at the Tufts Sunshine Classic Saturday.

King scored 5,561 points to place first to lead the Bears' men's track & field team.

After tallying 2,885 points over the first five events on Friday, King amassed 2,676 points on Saturday to outdistance the field of four competitors. He notched 781 points in the 110-meter hurdles with a first-placed time of 15.58 seconds, and recorded 535 points in the pole vault with a first-place distance of 12 feet, 1.5 inches (3.70m).

King also registered 500 points in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 5:10.63; 461 points in the javelin with a toss of 135 feet, six inches (41.30m); and 399 points in the discus with a mark of 87 feet, five inches (26.64m).

Freshman Dylan Moreno of host Tufts University finished second in the decathlon with 5,277 points.

In other events, the BSU 4x400 relay team won its race in 3:35.46.

The team consisted of sophomore Nathan Branco (Fairhaven, Mass.), junior Nicholas Grace (Acushnet, Mass.), senior Geoffrey Doyon (North Attleboro, Mass.) and sophomore Brian Vale (Assonet, Mass.).

BSU freshman Alex Huynh (Stoughton, Mass.) was second in the high jump (6'2.75"/1.90m) and third in the long jump (23'4"/7.11m).

Senior Chigozie Adigwe (Lowell, Mass.) placed in two events. Adigwe was third in the 110 hurdles in 15.45 and fourth in the 400 hurdles in 56.19. Freshman Ryan Anglin (Walpole, Mass.) checked in at fifth in the 400 hurdles (16.68).

Graduate student Corey Stalters (Norton, Mass.) was third in the shot put with a heave of 45 feet, eight inches (13.92m).

The 4x100 relay team took second in 42.25 seconds. The group included sophomore Matthew Mooney (Douglas, Mass.), junior Dasean Peters-Wolfe (Mansfield, Mass.), graduate student Mason Matias (New Bedford, Mass.) and sophomore Jack Paula (Randolph, Mass.).

Mooney finished third in the 200 in 22.15 followed in fifth place by senior Stephen Spofford (Chelmsford, Mass.) who posted a time of 22.17.

Fourth-place finishers included junior Javon Epps (Brockton, Mass.) in the finals of the 100-meter dash (11.07), sophomore Kaelan McDonald (Washington, Conn.) in the javelin (151'7"/46.21m), junior Chris Beaulieu (Monson, Mass.) in the long jump (22'9.75"/6.95m) and sophomore Ryan McCarthy (Weymouth, Mass.) in the pole vault (9'6.25"/2.90m).

BSU will host the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Championship on Friday starting at 11 a.m.
