King, Alves Compete in the Heptathlon at Tufts Cupid Challenge

MEDFORD, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University junior Ryker King (Wareham, Mass.) and freshman Drew Alves (Taunton, Mass.) competed in four heptathlon events on Friday during day one of the Tufts Cupid Challenge at the Gantcher Field House.

Alves has 2,209 points after four events while King checks in with 2,145 points.

Alves notched 779 points in the 60-meter dash as he posted a personal-best time of 7.30 seconds, and tallied 610 points in the high jump with a PR of five feet, ten inches (1.78M). He also registered 453 points in the long jump with a personal-best leap of 17 feet, seven inches (5.36m), and added 367 points in the shot put with a toss of 26 feet, 3.5 inches (8.01m).

Alves is in 14th place overall in the heptathlon standings with his 2,209 points. He finished sixth in the 60, fourth in the high jump and 20th in both the long jump and shot put. 

King's top event was the 60-meter dash. He recorded a personal-best time of 7.55 seconds in the 60 to amass 697 points. King also tallied 536 points in the high jump with a leap of five feet, 6.5 inches (1.69M); 477 points in the long jump with a distance of 17 feet, 11.75 inches (5.48m); and 435 points in the shot put with a toss of 30 feet, 0.75 inches (9.16m).

King is in 17th place overall in the heptathlon standings with his 2,145 points. King finished 13th in the 60, eighth in the high jump, 17th in the shot put and 18th in the long jump.

Freshman Oak Sullivan (Bozeman, Mont.) of Williams College leads the heptathlon competition after day one with 2,630 points.

The heptathlon wraps up on Saturday morning with the 60-meter hurdles, pole vault and 1,000-meter run.
