
BOSTON, Mass. -- Freshman Alex Huynh (Stoughton, Mass.) broke the school record in the high jump to lead the Bridgewater State University men's track & field team on Friday at the Reggie Open held at the Reggie Lewis Center.
Huynh captured top honors in the event with a leap of six feet, 7.5 inches (2.02m) as he eclipsed the Bears' previous indoor standard of six feet, 5.5 inches (1.97) set by Exondus Barnes in 2020. Huynh's mark also topped Barnes' outdoor record of six feet, seven inches (2.01m) set in 2021. Huynh is currently tied for 13th in all of Division III in the high jump.
Sophomore Aydan Fournier (Assonet, Mass.) captured top honors in the 800-meter run with a personal-best time of 2:01.53.
Senior Kevin McBirney (East Bridgewater, Mass.) won the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:30.06, while junior Mitchell Parent (Cumberland Center, Maine) placed third in the 1,000 with a PR of 2:38.61.
The Bears' distance medley relay squad featuring Fournier, McBirney, Parent and sophomore Brian Vale (Assonet, Mass.) finished second in the event as the foursome completed the race in 10:53.77.
Sophomore Matthew Mooney (Douglas, Mass.) placed second in the 400-meter dash with a personal-best time of 50.70 seconds. Mooney also placed sixth in the 60-meter dash with a finals and personal-best time of 7.11 seconds.
Junior Dasean Peters-Wolfe (Mansfield, Mass.) was second in the 200-meter dash with a PR of 22.84 seconds. Graduate student Mason Matias (New Bedford, Mass.) checked in at fifth in the 200 posting a time of 22.98 seconds.
Senior Chigozie Adigwe (Lowell, Mass.) placed third in the 60-meter hurdles with a finals time of 8.59 seconds.
Junior Ryker King (Wareham, Mass.) was fifth in the hurdles with a finals time of 8.80 seconds. King posted a preliminary time of 8.77 seconds.
Freshman Drew Alves (Taunton, Mass.) and junior Nicholas Grace (Acushnet, Mass.) finished fifth and sixth, respectively, in the triple jump. Alves jumped 39 feet, 8.5 inches (12.10m) as he was competing in the event for the first time at the collegiate level, while Grace recorded a personal-best leap of 39 feet, four inches (11.99m).
Senior Kenny Goodwin (Chelmsford, Mass.) was the sixth runner to cross the finish line in the mile as he posted a time of 4:34.50.
Senior Charles Dakai (Millville, Mass.) placed sixth (52.16) in the 400-meter dash.
The indoor schedule continues for the BSU track & field teams next weekend as the Bears will compete at the Tufts Cupid Challenge as well as the Harvard Open.
