Men's Track & Field Competes at River Hawk Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's indoor track & field team competed on Friday at the River Hawk Invitational hosted by UMass Lowell and held at The Track at New Balance.

The meet predominantly featured Division I and Division II programs.

Junior Kyle Ackroyd (Charlestown, R.I.) placed 12th out of 53 harriers in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:20.11. Junior Mitchell Parent (Cumberland Center, Maine) was 24th (15:59.58) in the 5,000 while Kenny Goodwin (Chelmsford, Mass.) finished 26th (16:01.61). Ackroyd, Parent and Goodwin all recorded personal-best times in the event.

Senior Chigozie Adigwe (Lowell, Mass.) finished 14th in the preliminaries of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.60 seconds, while junior Ryker King (Wareham, Mass.) checked in at 18th in the hurdles with a personal-best time of 8.71 seconds.

The Bears' 4x400-meter relay squad featuring senior Kevin McBirney (East Bridgewater, Mass.), junior Nicholas Grace (Acushnet, Mass.), graduate student Mason Matias (New Bedford, Mass.) and freshman Drew Alves (Taunton, Mass.) finished 14th out of a field of 27 relay teams with a time of 3:29.88. 

Sophomore Matthew Mooney (Douglas, Mass.) was 23rd in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.25 seconds.

Sophomore Shaun Humberd (Plymouth, Mass.) finished 28th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 50.74 seconds, while classmate Nathan Branco (Fairhaven, Mass.) was 28th in the 500-meter dash with a personal-best time of 1:10.95. Humberd also recorded the 49th best time in the 200 as he posted a PR of 22.43 seconds.

Adigwe (60H), Mooney (200) and Humberd (200, 400) recorded Division III New England Championships qualifying times in their respective events.

The BSU throwers will compete on Saturday at the Lyon Invitational hosted by Wheaton College.

The Bears will then return to action on Friday, January 31st when they compete at the Roxbury Community College Open held at the Reggie Lewis Center.
