
SMITHFIELD, R.I. -- Several members of the Bridgewater State University men's indoor track & field team competed on Wednesday at the Bryant Indoor Throws Competition.
The meet featured student-athletes from all three NCAA divisions as well as club and unattached individuals.
Graduate student Corey Stalters (Norton, Mass.) placed fifth in the shot put out of a field of 47 competitors with a toss of 48 feet, six inches (14.78m).
Also finishing among the top 25 in the shot put for the Bears were senior Zanthius Collins (Franklin, Mass.) and sophomore Joe Flanagan (Foxborough, Mass.). Collins recorded a mark of 44 feet, eight inches (13.61m) while Flanagan checked in at 37 feet, 9.5 inches (11.52m).
Also competing in the shot put for the Bears were sophomores Chandler Doehler (Berkley, Mass.) and Kaelen McDonald (Washington, Conn.), freshmen Charles Saba (Mansfield, Mass.) and Jackson Kelley (Abington, Mass.), junior Colin Daly (South Easton, Mass.) and freshman Jacob Fredette (Charlton, Mass.). Doehler finished 26th (36'11"/11.25m) while McDonald was 32nd (35'3"/10.74m), Saba 34th (34'9.75"/10.61m), Kelley 41st (32'8.5"/9.97m), Daly 42nd (31'11.5"/9.74m) and Fredette 43rd (31'8"/9.65m). McDonald, Saba, Kelley and Fredette all recorded personal-best marks.
Daly paced the Bears in the weight throw with a distance of 35 feet, 9.5 inches (10.91) as he finished 24th overall out of a field of 31 throwers. Freshman Chase Noel (Bridgewater, Mass.) was 26th in the event with a mark of 31 feet, 6.5 inches.
The indoor schedule continues for the BSU track & field teams on Saturday as the Bears compete at the Suffolk Ice Breaker Invitational held at The Track at New Balance.
