CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – Sophomore Joshua Danner-Hicks (Haverhill, Mass.) shattered the school record in the triple jump to lead Bridgewater State University at the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA) Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday and Saturday at MIT.

Danner-Hicks registered a sixth place leap of 47 feet, 2.25 inches (14.38 meters) as he eclipsed the Bears' previous outdoor mark of 45 feet , 8.25 inches set by Tim Mann in 1988.  Danner-Hicks is currently ranked in the top 30 in Division III.

Junior Michael McPherson (Mansfield, Mass.) finished fourth in the shot put with a heave of 52 feet, 8.25 inches (16.06 meters).   He was less than three inches shy of his own school mark of 52 feet, 11 inches set earlier this season.

Both Danner-Hicks and McPherson earned All-NEICAAA accolades with their respective performances for placing in the top eight.

The women's 4 x 100-meter relay team of juniors Karen Anselmi (Franklin, Mass.) and Mychal-Lynne Folsom (Rockland, Mass.) and sophomores Laura McHugh (Mansfield, Mass.) and Malgorzata Czerwonka (Billerica, Mass.) came within a hundredth of a second of the Bears' outdoor record as they posted a time of 50.11.  Theresa Rush, Cindy Lindh, Patty Bates and Adelia Karim set the school mark back in 1983 with a time of 50.10.

The BSU men's team placed 26th in the team standings with eight points while the women's squad did not place. 

The University of Rhode Island captured both the men's (169 pts.) and women's (106 pts.) titles.  AIC and Southern Connecticut State University tied for second on the men's side (60 pts.), while the University of New Hampshire (73 pts.) and University of Vermont (59 pts.) placed second and third respectively on the women's side.
