Men's Tennis Opens 2025 Campaign with 6-3 Win Over Thomas

GORHAM, Maine -- The Bridgewater State University men's tennis team opened the 2025 season with a road victory.

The Bears, who made their first NCAA Division III tournament appearance last spring, defeated Thomas College, 6-3.

It marked the fourth straight season that BSU has scored a win over the Terriers (0-3).

The match was even at 3-3 before the Bears won the final three singles flights.

BSU won two doubles matches and four of the six singles matches.

Junior Adam Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.), who moved up to No. 1 singles this season, defeated senior Gabe McPhail (Windham, Maine), 6-1, 6-3, while No. 2 singles player junior Tom Ayson (Plymouth, Mass.) also won for the Bears.

Ayson was a 7-6 (7-5), 4-6, 6-3 winner over senior Seb Soto (Mexico City, Mexico).

No. 5 singles player, freshman Tyler Rocchio (Attleboro, Mass.), won his collegiate debut for BSU, downing sophomore Calvin Cutler (Standish, Maine), 6-0, 7-5.

At No. 6 singles, sophomore Anthony Lucas (Weymouth, Mass.) won for the Bears over freshman Casey Duncan (Newcastle, Maine), 6-3, 6-3.

Thomas won No. 3 singles as freshman Camden Herrick (Skowhegan, Maine) won over senior Matthew Krampf (Littleton, Mass.), 6-1, 1-6, 7-5.

Freshman Dominic Clifton (Smithfield, Maine) battled back from a set down at No. 4 singles for the Terriers, defeating BSU sophomore Khiem Nguyen (Burlington, Vt.), 5-7, 6-3., 6-4.

The No. 1 doubles team of Beatrice and Ayson won, 8-6, over McPhail and Soto while the No. 3 doubles team of Nguyen and junior Ryan Hebert (Taunton, Mass.) won, 8-5, over Thomas' Harrison Withee (Hampden, Maine) and graduate student Nick Magiera (Casco, maine).

The Terriers' No. 2 doubles team of Herrick and Clifford won, 8-3, over Krampf and Lucas.

BSU has its home opener Thursday against the Wentworth Institute of Technology while Thomas is at Norwich on Saturday afternoon.
