Men's Tennis Drops 7-2 Decision to Emerson

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to visiting Emerson Cllege on Tuesday afternoon at the Rosen Memorial Tennis Courts.

The Lions improve to 5-10 on the season with the Bears fall to 2-2.

Emerson swept the three tightly contested doubles matches and captured four of the six singles flights.

In doubles play, Filippo Nocchi (Pontedera, Italy) and Leo Ishizuka (Kawasaki, Japan) edged the BSU number one tandem of Adam Beatrice (Rockland, Mass.) and Tom Ayson (Plymouth, Mass.), 8-7. The Lions' second flight tandem of Pete Sevikul (Bangkok, Thailand) and Lorenzo Almeida (Curitiba, Brazil) held on for a tough 8-7 win at the second flight over Robby Cooney (Plymouth, Mass.) and Matthew Krampf (Littleton, Mass.). Noah Mesaros (Boise, Idaho) and Finn Leeves-Coben (Malibu, Calif.) completed the doubles sweep for the visitors with an 8-5 decision against Ryan Hebert (Taunton, Mass.) and Filippo Mucci (Vineyard Haven, Mass.).

In singles play, Ayson got the Bears on the board with a 6-3, 6-1 straight set decision at number three.

Nocchi (6-2, 6-2), Almeida (6-2, 6-2), Sevikul (6-3, 6-3) and Mesaros (6-1, 7-6 (7-3)) earned straight set wins for the Lions at the first, fourth, second and fifth flights, respectively, to secure the win.

Bridgewater's Tyler Barros (Somerset, Mass.) rounded out the scoring at number six. Barros split the first two sets, 6-4, 3-6, before winning in a super tiebreaker, 11-9.

The Bears are back in action on Thursday afternoon as they host Curry College at 3:30.
