Swimming & Diving Competes at Day Two of ECAC Open Championships

ANNAPOLIS, Md. -- The Bridgewater State University men's and women's swimming & diving teams competed in the second day of the ECAC Open Championships on Saturday.

The Bears are competing mostly Division I opponents at the three-day met held at Lejeune Hall on the campus of the Naval Academy.

Women's Swimming & Diving

The 200 medley relay team featuring  junior Julie Remson (Norwalk, Conn.), senior Summer Martin (Norton, Mass.), junior Ava Fenton (Monument Beach, Mass.) and senior Jenna Fiebiger (Johannesburg, South Africa) finished 12th in the event with a finals time of 1:55.01. The foursome posted a time of 1:56.69 earlier in the day in the preliminaries.

Remson also finished 34th in the preliminaries of the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:03.77.

The BSU women are in 16th place with 20 points. There are 22 teams in the field.

Men's Swimming & Diving

Junior Desmond Ng (Petaling Jaya, Malaysia) posted a personal-best time of 53.81 seconds to finish 24th in the preliminaries of the 100 breaststroke.

Juniors Ryan McKenzie (Charlton, Mass.) and Cooper Sever (Edgewater, Md.) checked in at 34th (1:00.05) and 38th (1:02.57), respectively, in the 100 breaststroke prelims.

Sophomore Jirat Saengthong (Watertown, Mass.) finished 47th in the premliminaries of the 100 butterfly with a PR time of 53.81 seconds while Sever was 57th (56.38) in the event.

The quartet of Sever, Ng, Saengthong and senior Thomas Roch (Chelmsford, Mass.) advanced to the finals of the 200 medley relay with a preliminary time of 1:38.33, but were disqualified in the finals.

The BSU men are 19th in a field of  22 teams with 14 points.

The three-day event concludes on Sunday starting with races in the morning.
