Men's Swimming & Diving Earns Six Event Titles Sets Two School Records at Little East Championships

WELLESLEY, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's swimming & diving team earned six conference titles and set five meet records as well as two school records on Friday during day two of the 2024 Little East Conference (LEC) Swimming & Diving Championships held at the Boston Sports Institute in Wellesley.

Freshmen Aaron Fowler (Brookline, Mass.) and Jirat Saengthong (Watertown, Mass.) and seniors Brennan Gravanda (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Joseph Pervier (Baldwinville, Mass.) won the Little East title set the school as well as meet record in the 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:25.88. The foursome eclipsed the Bears' previous school mark of 1:26.31 set back in 1998 by Brett Oteri, Adam Budd, Dave Cangiano and Brad Henderson.

Sophomore Cooper Sever (Edgewater, Mass.), senior Cooper Castellone (South Windsor, Conn.), Fowler and Saengthong captured the conference crown and set a meet record in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:31.61.

Fowler earned the LEC title in the 100 butterfly with a program and meet record time of 49.81 seconds. Fowler broke his own school mark of 50.85 seconds set last November (11/20/23) against Roger Williams University. 

Castellone garnered the Little East championship and broke the meet record in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 26.96 seconds.

Sever grabbed top honors in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:00.43.

Pervier won the conference title in the 50 freestyle with a meet record time of 21.65 seconds.

In the team standings, the two-time defending championship Bears have 337 points through the first two days of the four-day meet. Keene State College (302 points) is in second place while Eastern Connecticut State University (275 pts.) sits in third.

The Little East championship meet continues on Saturday morning with events getting underway at ten o'clock.
