Men's Swimming & Diving Splits Tri-Meet

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- The Bridgewater State University men's swimming & diving team split a tri-meet with Brandeis University and Little East Conference rival Keene State College on Saturday afternoon at the Moriarty Pool.

The Bears (4-5) posted a 149-121 victory over Keene State, and dropped a 134-133 decision to Brandeis. The Judges (3-6) exhibitioned the last two events. Brandeis swept the tri-meet as the Judges downed the Owls (0-8), 152-111.

Junior Cooper Castellone (South Windsor, Conn.) captured top honors in a pair of events for the Bears. Castellone was the first to touch the wall in the 50 breaststroke (28.90) and 100 breaststroke (1:02.11) as he set season-best times in both events.

Senior Chris Anastasiades (Wakefield, Mass.) added a first-place performance for the Bears as he recorded a time of 23.00 seconds in the 50 freestyle. Anastasiades also finished second in the 50 butterfly (25.33).

Graduate diver Shawn Driscoll-Gomez (Medford, Mass.) placed second in the one-meter diving competition with a career-best score of 124.65 points.

The foursome of Castellone, Anastasiades and juniors Brennan Gravanda (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Joseph Pervier (Baldwinville, Mass.) finished second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:43.18.

Pervier, Gravanda, Anastasiades and freshman Ryan McKenzie (Charlton, Mass.) added a second place showing in the 400 freestyle relay (3:24.45).

The BSU swimming and diving teams are back in action on Wednesday evening as the Bears entertain Bentley University at six o'clock.
