BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- For the second time this season, Bridgewater State University senior goalkeeper Lukas Ekmanis has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
Ekmanis went 2-0 between the pipes for the Bears last week with three saves and a 1.16 goals against average. The Baxter, Tennessee product turned aside a pair of shots in a 5-1 win over Rhode Island College, and made one save in a 6-2 MASCAC victory over MCLA.
In 13 games this season, Ekmanis is 8-4-1 with four shutouts and a 0.94 goals against average in 1,144-plus (1144:42) minutes of work. He has turned aside 40 shots and currently sports a .769 save percentage.
Ekmanis leads the MASCAC in both wins and goals against average, and is tied for the conference lead in solo shutouts. He also ranks second in minutes played and is fifth in save percentage.
in 25 games over four season with the Bears, Ekmanis has recorded ten wins and five shutouts. He also checks in with a career 1.75 goals against average to go along with 112 saves and a .747 save percentage in just under 1,954 minutes (1953:50) of work.
The MASCAC Defensive Player of the Week honor marks the second of Ekmanis' career.
The BSU men's soccer team wrapped up the regular season with an overall record of 10-5-2 including a 6-1-0 MASCAC mark. The Bears are the top seed in this week's MASCAC Tournament and will host a semifinal round game on Friday afternoon at 3:30.
