
BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University senior goalkeeper Lukas Ekmanis has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Men’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.
Ekmanis made five saves to record his fifth win and fourth shutout of the season as the Bears earned a key 1-0 MASCAC win last week over Salem State University to remain undefeated in league play.
In nine games this season, Ekmanis is 5-3-1 with four shutouts and a 0.89 goals against average in 810 minutes of work. He has turned aside 34 shots and currently sports an .810 save percentage.
Ekmanis leads the MASCAC in both wins and shutouts. He also ranks second among the conference goaltending leaders in goals against average and minutes played as well as third in save percentage.
in 21 games over four season with the Bears, Ekmanis has recorded seven wins and five shutouts. He also checks in with a career 1.89 goals against average to go along with 106 saves and a .757 save percentage.
The MASCAC Defensive Player of the Week honor marks the first of Ekmanis' career.
The BSU men's soccer team is currently 6-4-2 on the season and a perfect 4-0 in the MASCAC standings. The Bears travel to Massachusetts Maritime Academy on Friday night for a seven o'clock conference game with the Buccaneers.
