Men's Soccer Blanks Salve Regina for Adams' 200th Career Win

By Jim Fenton

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. -- Bridgewater State University men's soccer coach Brendan Adams reached a milestone on Wednesday night.

Adams registered his 200th victory when the Bears edged Salve Regina University, 1-0, at Mazzaferro Field.

Now in his 23rd year, Adams is 200-166-43 following the non-conference victory over the Seahawks.

The only other Bridgewater State coaches who reached the 200-win level are retired baseball coach Rick Smith (550 wins from 1994-2018), retired men's basketball coach Joe Farroba (402 wins from 1992-2021), current women's basketball coach Bridgett Casey (392 wins starting in 1997) and retired volleyball coach Ken Duarte (269 wins from 1994-2005).

Adams was a Bridgewater State women's assistant coach for two seasons and a Bears' assistant men's coach for one year before taking over the program in 2002.

BSU have made six trips to the NCAA Division 3 tournament under Adams and has won the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference regular-season title four times with six conference tournament championships.

The Bears improved to 4-3-2 with the win over Salve Regina (4-6) and have won three of their last four games.

Senior Lukas Ekmanis (Baxter, Tenn.) recorded his second straight shutout and third in the last four games. Ekmanis was forced to make just one save on a shot by junior Aaron Muncaster (Oakdale, Conn.).

The Bears and Seahawks were scoreless in the first half and BSU netted the only goal of the night at 67:06.

Sophomore Ethan Mallett (Ellington, Conn.) scored from senior Carsten Boloz (Southborough, Mass.).

Boloz took a corner kick from the right side and the ball sailed to the top left side of the 18. Mallett curled a shot inside the far post from about 15 yards out.

It was the first goal of the season for Mallett and the second assist this season for Boloz.

Salve Regina and BSU each had nine shots and six corner kicks.

Seahawks freshman goalkeeper Adonis Santiago (Oakdale, Conn.) made one save.

BSU has a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference game on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Framingham State University.

Salve Regina takes on Worcester Polytechnic Institute on Saturday at 1 p.m.
